Doodles, Doilies, Hat, Motifs and Edging

Muskaan has joined the challenge and she has just finished making an interesting "I love tatting" doodle and posted all of her trials in making it from drawing to finished product. She initially planned to make it all in one pass and started with 2 colours. Then she ran into issues trying to get her threads coming out the side of the heart. The doodle has the potential to be used as a pendant or a bracelet.

Batty Tatter has row 8 of Renulek's Spring Doily done, although it tool all of her concentration and a lot of retro tatting.

Sue had some time while travelling to work on her hat. working on a large project like this with repeated motifs can make you feel like it's a never ending process, but she's finally at that last round before the band and brim.

Nancy has a new project going in red, white and blue to keep her occupied while bird watching.

Fox has started another of Renulek's doilies, this time in Venus size 70 or 80. She's still working on the Luck Clover doily which is currently 6 inches across. She finished her hanky edging and she's happy with it, but wishes she had chosen a different edging. She sewed the picots to the back side to manage a neater frontside, but then the frilly part was lost. She has finished this round of the new doily and is not sure what colour to choose next as she's not sure how large it will be. She decided to stick with the Venus thread that she thinks is size 80. The lucky clover doily is being done in vintage DMC and is almost too large for the scanner.

Kristen is finishing her latest spiderweb doily and trying to decide is she should add beads. The full size doily looked like this. And this is what the ends look like without beads. Here is the smaller doily she did with beads. She doesn't have beads in the centre and she's wondering if it would look weird with beads on the outside.

Marie created another pendant made from a focal bead and two strands of metallic sewing thread and she's calling this one Blue Ice. Another one using a focal bead and two strands of metallic sewing thread she has called Sunshine.

Flowers, Doilies, Bell, Snowflakes, Heart, Butterflies and Bookmark

mb duke has almost finished with the Flower Pot project; she just has to glue it to the tile. She is currently on row 9 of Renulek's Spring Doily and it's taking a lot of perseverance.

Nancy finished working on a 3 piece gift set for a friend of her daughters. She tatted one regular Spinning Wheel Glass Mat by Mary Konior and 2 smaller versions using Lizbeth size 20 thread in the colour of Latte Foam, Ecru and Mocha Brown Light.

Diane was pleased to see that one of her students completed a motif of her own design.

Fox has added beads to the latest round of the Luck Clover doily. The round is almost completed and she has also made great progress on her most recent edging.

Kathy tatted a lovely little bell, but for her 50th wedding anniversary she added metallic gold bells, sparkly ribbon and a pin so that she could wear it.

Kristen started Lyn Morton's Trefoil pattern, but truncated it when she decided she didn't want to tat with size 3 any more. She had better luck with Jon Yusoff's Quantiesque snowflake, which she described as fabulous and fun.

Margaret spent a lot of time alone in the hospital during radio active cancer treatments and consequently did a lot of tatting. The two large butterflies are Mary Konior's done in Turkish Altin Basak thread, while the smaller ones are bits left on shuttles done in Lizbeth Pineapple Parfait, and Girly Girl. Be-stitched hearts called Tatted Josephine Heart were tatted in Lizbeth Girly Girl size 20. The Small Tatted Heart by Betsy Evans was done in the same thread. Kersti's Floral Tatted Bookmark is tatted in Lizbeth size 20, Vineyard Harvest.

Marie had to buy Tatting Treats by Pam Palmer, for the mouse on the front and this is her revised version tatted with size 30 thread.

Doilies, Bookmarks, Cupcakes, Motifs, Hat, Edgings, Easter Eggs

Batty Tatter is half way through row 8 of Renulek's spring doily and it's laying nicely flat.

Erisnyx used Lizbeth size 20, #135 and #680 to make the Spiral Bookmark pattern by Gina for her cousin's birthday. The bookmark pattern from The Complete Book of Tatting, by Rebecca Jones is done in Lizbeth size 80, #111 and #104 for her sister's birthday. Jon Yusoff's Chinese Coin Bookmark was done in Lizbeth size 20, #100. Jane Eborall's Flowery SCMR bookmark was tatted with Lizbeth size 20, #621 and #684. She used size 10 thread to make the cupcake from Be-Stitched for her grandmother's birthday. Another variation of the cupcake with a split ring candle was tatted in Lizbeth size 20, #131, #688, #142 with the flame done in a yellow DMC Cébélia and was made for her friend's birthday. This Rose Star from Be-Stitched was tatted in Lizbeth size 20, #100.

Lilas tried out a technique for isolated rings from Edwige Renaudin’s book la frivolité aux navettes.

Sue is started on the sides of the crown of her hat and bit by bit it's growing.

Diane snipped off the mistake she made and finally finished Round 4 of Marilee Rockley's "Arches" doily. Peyton finished six rings, and now she's ready to tat a ring and chain pattern. 4th grader Zoe tatted 12 inches over the weekend.

Fox started this little motif trying out the new Slider shuttle. Fox was at loose ends after she finished the Spring Doily and she began auditioning edgings like the white and green sample tatted in Lizbeth #40 but it felt like twine. The Susanne Schwenke design, and the blue on the left were too busy for a hanky. She settled on this pattern from Bessie M. Attenborough’s The Craft of Tatting done in Sulky. The Lucky Clover doily hasn't been so lucky and the second row has been started over several times. The edging is progressing although she's working in Sulky Blendable, in 12 weight which is very fine. She was not pleased with the curved edge of the hankie and none of the borders attempted worked because of it, so she snipped the scalloped edge off and now it's working. The motif she started is finished, as is Fox, after hours of trying to straighten out her blog address, which has now been changed to, www.tat-ology.blogspot.com, so if you have it bookmarked you'll want to update the address.

Marie doesn't remember where this pattern came from, but it's tatted in size 20 crochet cotton.

HisKid tatted Five Petal Pendant from Yarnplayer's Up and Tat' Em book in size 60 Flame Lantana HDT from Tatskool, with Swarovski Elements Fire Opal Bicone beads.

Wanda's version of an egg tree, with bunny faces and baskets on it, used the  Rainbow Splash Easter eggs she made. She shared the Easter pins she made with her family.
