Crosses, Doilies, Angels, Hearts, Snowflakes and Roosters

Special Note: Several of our participants create HDT and several are doing blog giveaways or have other noteworthy activities. It would be nice to include them here because this blog attracts a lot of traffic. However, this is a tatting blog and unless there is tatting showing in the picture, it won't get mentioned. So if you want to see it here - add tatting.

Alicia Alba has posted 2 more projects, a bronze and cream bookmark with a split ring border and a completed TIAS rooster. Wendy completed the TIAS and remarks that she would have used brighter colours if she had known what she was making. She used variegated green in Coats 20 for pattern of Holly & Berries by Mark Myers. Jeanie has been tatting and thought it was time to take some pictures. On the left in blue is Quantiesque from Jon's Tatsaway Blog and on the right in wine and pink is Lattice Heart by Birgit Phelps and the bottom motif is a Paw Print by Nancy Tracy.
Sunshinecraft was holed up in a training room for a couple of weeks without internet access, which was a good thing because I've had the wrong link to her blog and while she was tatting and posting I kept checking her blog post for January 1st. So here to play catch up are all the lovely things she has been doing. She made this lovely pink motif from a Japanese tatting book to practice her Josephine knots. Then to get comfortable tatting with beads she made these beaded edgings using some chunk silk she had from making thimble rings. She is working on a collar using DMC perle 12 The collar has 13 small motifs making for lots of ends to hide. She got down to the last row around the collar and worried that she wouldn't have enough thread to finish it. No worries. here is the completed collar and enough thread left over to tat a little butterfly. Now she's on to practicing cluny leaves and her strips of nice looking clunies are getting longer.

M tatted the Third Day of December from the book 24 Snowflakes in Tatting by Lene Bjørn in Lizbeth size 20, col 613 & col 623 & col 680. It looked so much like a flower when she started it that she began again in floral colours. It's a stunning motif. Wouldn't a bunch of them together look lovely as a shawl? Wouldn't a shawl like that be a stinker to wash and block?
Linda has a funky rooster, created when she did the TIAS and forget to change threads and didn't add a bead, otherwise he's perfectly funky.
Ancolie's new motif is Améthyste" by Pascale Provost.
Aileen is having a giveaway and among the prizes are a tatted lipstick/chapstick holder in your choice of colour and a crystal angel handphone dangle with lace wings. Check her blog for details.

Diane tatted 3 "Christina" from Tatted Bookmarks - cross-shaped by Lene Bjorn
from one 50 yard skein of hand-dyed thread size 30 "Forest" from Yarnplayer. The next cross pattern is from Tatting Patterns by Mary Konior and the thread is Parlak Oren Bayan Dantel Ipligi #063, size 50. The last cross in the same thread is "Monica" from Tatted Bookmarks - cross-shaped by Lene Bjorn. Ellen tatted Isabel's name in pink variegated Gutermann Sulky Cotton 30 thread which is one of her favourite threads. The four ATC fabric cards have the tatting glues in place. A fifth card has already been traded. Here is a tree full of really cute tatted owls. The hand sewn fabric tissue holder is decorated with a section of scrap tatting Ellen received from Jon.
Jeff, like a number of other tatters has been busy working on a Mary Konior design in her memory. What he chose to work on was Windmills. Why the design is called windmills isn't apparent until you see several of them joined like in the doily Jeff created. One motif shows a spiral effect, but when joined together you do see the windmills. In addition to windmills he has completed Jane's rooster in Lizbeth size 20 in colour numbers 656 (Dark Wedgewood Blue) and 142 (Turquoise Twist), along with DMC Cordonnet size 20 (White), which turned out to be good colour choices.

Snowflake, Heart, Horse, Leaf and Rooster

Carolyn got caught up in her other interests and wasn't able to tat for a while, but she has decided to take up the challenge again with Snowflake 7 from Festive Snowflakes and Ornaments edited by Barbara Foster in an unknown size 20 thread. Agasunset found that bad weather is conducive to staying inside and tatting. She tried her hand at making some square motifs and then joined them all together to create a pendant. After a quick photo shoot she had a number of new items to add to her Etsy store.

Isabel used my rose as a basis for her flower which she worked in 3 colours of sewing thread, purple, green pistachio, and fuchsia. Don't all those colours make for a really interesting effect?

Fox tatted the mignonette heart again and it's gorgeous. The mignonette gives it such a delicate lacy look and see how the variegation happened to line up.
M has tatted the Fall Leaves pattern by Heather Johnston in Lizbeth size 20, col 100. She had a bit of trouble following it at the start, but now that she has gained experience she's not afraid to tackle more leaves. Vanessa introduces Max her mauve breasted rooster that hatched thanks to Jane's TIAS.

IsDihara has tatted her rooster in Lizbeth size 40 in color # 107 Tropical Fruit, Clark's Big Ball size 30 crochet thread makes for his body and Lizbeth size 40 in color 688 Seagreen Dark, and a proud looking cock he is.
Linda has been working on Nancy Tracy's, "Mom's Pink Doily" in Lizbeth size 20 #151 Angel's Love. She was careful to make all the bare threads of the last round the same length but it still cupped a little until it was blocked.
Alan has found that tatting in silver while very rewarding has some serious drawbacks. He tatted Dawn's horse head earrings in silver and they look marvellous.

Heart, Angel, Bookmark,Frankenstein and TIAS

Agasunset joins the challenge with "Heart 2 Heart" pendant which a design of her own devising that has a Swarovski crystal added to it.
NancyD tatted the Simple Angel pattern by Birgit Phelps.

Rayanna presents her TIAS humpbacked rooster. Hmmm looks like it got turned around so that the join was made on the wrong side of the body. Anne tatted a Tardis bookmark to go with her Dr Who book and now she is sharing the pattern. I'm a Dr Who fan and I can't believe I didn't recognize the familiar Tardis/police box shape.

Carol and her friend the other Carol enjoy Halloween and for their Secret Santa Exchange they tatted Halloween designs, which I totally missed. So after a very long delay on my part, this is what Carol sent out to her Secret Santa partner. Frankenstein and his bride are modified versions of Jane's Bride and Groom patterns, mounted and framed with accompanying bat, spider and spider web.
Kelly is thrilled that she successfully completed her TIAS rooster. She won some silk thread in a raffle basket last September at the Fringes "Fall into Tatting" weekend in Cambridge Ontario and she used it to make the Tiny Square Teapot from the "Tea is for Tatting" book by Martha Ess.

Martha has completed her TIAS rooster and named her cockerel Norman. Sherry has a new book in the works The Exquisite Collection of Butterflies Volume 2 is in the works. Check her blog for details.

Doilies, Heart, Snowflake, Names and Roosters

Liyarra has finished the doily that began with her Motif 8. It's a design by Lene Bjorn and was found in the Danish magazine Orkis Bladet. Tatted in Marilee's Garden Afternoon.
Wendy has Day 10 of TIAS done and it's looking suspiciously like a cock but as there's another installment to come, she's not too sure. Fox tatted a heart designed by Gina which she found on Georgia's site which called for size 20 thread, but she used Lizbeth size 40. It had too many stitches and she missed a join, which really had a bad effect on the shape of the poor thing. One side of it is lovely and we'll just ignore the other side for now.
Vanessa has tatted day 10 0f TIAS and it's looking very much like a rooster although her colours seem like they might be in the wrong places.
IsDihara was having trouble with a shamrock working in the Majestic thread, but she persevered, remembering to tat looser and she finally has her shamrock. Someone was asking about the edging shown earlier. The pattern is from the InTatters group under the Knots - Tatting Links tab and the file is called Beeton Edge.
Ellen's company has had a few more resignations and she has tatted names for the departing colleagues using Anna Valeire's alphabets.
Heather has finished her mystery tatting from last week, but it's still a mystery as she's only showing us a teaser. Then she started the 3rd day of December snowflake by Lene Bjorn tatted in one of her new HDT's. She has completed the TIAS and it is indeed a fine young cockerel. She thinks the pink one turned out better.
Martha shows us a picture of her early tatting worked in crappy thread. The quality of the thread does affect your tatting. Marty has up to day 10 of TIAS completed and she's not sure if it's a rooster or an alien. Some of us have seen day 11, it's a rooster.

Wally tatted this design which is actually a coin purse. It measures around 4 inches wide made with Omega #20 pastel mint green using a pattern from Book No Five by Adeline Cordet, Tatting Designs with Instructions. (Note: this book and 4 other vintage books have been reprinted by Lacis in one large volume called TATTING Designs From Victorian Lace Craft $16.00 USD and is well worth having in your tatting library.)
