Snowflakes, Leaves, Edging and Doily

Mica tatted Day 10 from 24 Snowflakes in Tatting worked with DMC metallic thread. She liked the pattern but hated the thread. It kept splitting and tearing and she couldn't tat more than a few rings without the thread snapping. She eventually did the whole pattern with chains and mock rings and notes that it might be a coincidence, but the skeins that tend to be more difficult.

Krystle introduces us to Dr. Von Threadmore scientist extraordinaire who has been changing ordinary white thread into all the colours of the rainbow.

Aileen topped her Halloween post with charming little cross stitched picture and continuing in a seasonal vein she shares the Maple Leaf by Tammy Rogers and the Sugar Maple Leaf by Gale Marshall, both done in a variegated thread she got from Hongkong. She finishes her posting with the winners of her HALLOWVERSARY giveaway. Congratulations to all the winners.

Diane chose some favorites, "Beatrice" from Tatted Doilies by Iris Niebach, Tatskool's Raspberry Sorbet HDT, and two of her Grizzly Mountain Arts shuttles to keep her on track tatting instead of e-farming. It's a much more productive use of time.
Kathy circled her Halloween pumpkin with a cloverleaf edging done in size 30 thread.

Hearts, Snowflakes, Pumpkins, Leaves, Bookmarks and Dragon

M tatted "Queen of Hearts" from the book Tatting With Visual Patterns by Mary Konior in Lizbeth size 20, col 114 and she plans on tatting it again in another colour.
Viv thinks she has the final version of her Halloween costume done. The period corset has several gussets and she has covered the front ones with tatting. The skirt has a long curved slit that she has also decorated with tatting, and to top it all off she'll be wearing tatted Raspberry Sorbet earrings. Now we want to see pictures of of the whole ensemble make up and all.

Pam just got around to posting this picture of a heart. It's another of the beginning lesson challenges from Georgia Seitz’s online classes.

Vinnie saw Teri's butterfly bookmark and these blue beads and she had to match the ideas up to create her own butterfly bracelet. Worked with 4 shuttles (4 shuttles!) and no outer border. Free flying butterflies on a bracelet, or is it an anklet?

Ancolie has tatted Mary Konior's Network in DMC size 20.
Shirley tatted the heart, a Barbara Foster adaptation of a J.M. Blackman design done in Lizbeth thread size 20, color 121 and white DMC Cebelia size 20 and added a tail to make a bookmark. The other bookmark is Jane Eborall's design which was tatted as a gift and adapted in colors to depict the owners' own cat with green beads for the eyes and a pink one for the nose. The grey is DMC cordonnet special and DMC Cebelia white, both size 30. Now she has orders for several more and varying colours to match other cats.

Anne won books and thread at Frivolitetsknuten. She has been testing quilting threads for tatting and plans on buying more Gütermann SULKY, Cotton 12 and Aurifil Cotton 12. She used Gütermann SULKY Cotton 12 to make the dragon and gave it to a friend. She's currently looking for a small but advanced motif to make in three colours. This one was a bit too complicated and she needs to be able to write the pattern too. Carol has been using Tatting Tea Tuesday to create a fall display. First there is a lovely little pumpkin designed by Sherry Matthews. Then an updated Workbasket pattern done by Tammy Rodgers worked in Yarnplayer's Sugar Maple HDT and a solid butter cream Manuela. The right leaf center is also Manuela in light pumpkin. The acorns are from Karey Solomon's book "Tatting Turns over a New Leaf" as are the next patterns,"Simple Leaf" and "Silver Maple Leaf", done in Yarnplayer's Sugar Maple HDT and a solid red Manuela for the center. The cute little leaf is designed by Sherry and done in Altin Basak thread. Finally here is the dining room table all decorated for Fall

Diane thinks "Itsy-Bitsy Snowflake" is her favorite pattern in Samantha Melnychuk's A Veritable Tatted Blizzard. She used Cebelia, size 20 and mounted it in a picture frame, where it's a perfect fit. Rather than play with other threads that might not fit so well, she's just working with more of the same. Check my blog for a thread comparison, it's in the sidebar on the right. Any of those listed will be roughly the same size as the Cebelia 20.
Heather is collecting hearts for her friend Tracy, both hearts and notes to wish her well, as well as hearts to be sold in a fund raiser for Tracy. To promote this activity Heather has created 2 variations of a heart design that people can use, although I'm sure other hearts would be welcome as well as long as there is no copyright infringement. Heather's address is in the pattern PDF. If you have the time, I'm sure both Heather and Tracy will appreciate your efforts.

Kelly received her Fall-oween exchange which was a lovely tatted pumpkin turned into a pin inside a marvellous card decorated with tatted flowers.

Flowers, Snowflakes, Edgings, Pumpkins, Bookmarks and Mini Tats

M tatted Patchwork from the book Tatting With Visual Patterns by Mary Konior in Lizbeth size 20, col 601. She tried the Magic thread trick for hiding ends and had difficulties with it. She tried again with a test piece using the instructions from Georgia's site, which seemed to work better. Her next piece is the Flower Fragment, from the book Tatting With Visual Patterns by Mary Konior tatted in Lizbeth size 20, col 684 & col 142.

Mica tatted Lacy Snowflake from Tatted Snowflakes and using Kreinik braid No. 4 a warm, chocolate brown metallic color. The block tatted pattern is Day 9 from 24 Snowflakes in Tatting and was made in metallic DMC floss. Mica finds block tatting too heavy for snowflakes and she didn't really like working on this one so she's moving on and not even fixing the mistake. I'm with you, if you don't enjoy it, why torture yourself with it?
Linda has tatted up an assortment of Lizbeth threads so that we can see what they look like tatted. Some threads that look terrible on the ball tat up into luscious lavish laces and some that look scrumptious on the ball sometimes look like a dog's breakfast tatted. The the first red edging is done in Red Burst #142 and the second edging is Desert Bloom #110. The edgings are sewed on to a collar of a jacket. The third edging is jelly Bean #119 and it will go on a t-shirt. Next is Springtime #115 a very delicate color. Christmas Green Mix #152 has more white than she likes but still a nice color. Angel Love #151 also has quite a bit of white in it and you can see how some designs work better in solid rather than variegated shades. The last colour is Caribbean #122. Linda's exchange partner was Heather and she received a lovely tatted pumpkin in size 10 hand dyed orange. The earrings are Heather's own design tatted in size 30 Harvest Time HDT and the hank of HDT is size 20, Bali.

Charlotte has tatted Lacy Snowflake from Vida Sunderman's Tatted Snowflakes. It is tatted in the glitzy size 10 Anchor Liana Metallic. She also shares an ebay find,a 1920 German tatting book.
Vinnie has been doing more knitting than tatting recently but she did make this tatted bag big enough to hold her mobile, complete with a beaded fringe and butterfly.

Jeanne has created a PDF for her "Meandering Path" motif and made the pattern available.

Ellen has created a new paperclip bookmark for the online class "Joy" and while she was at it, she created a special one for her daughter Joey. Adorable!

Aileen has tatted Karey Solomons Oak Leaf from her book "Tatting Turns Over a New Leaf" in size 20. Then she did motif 53 from Patti Duff's Mini Tats to fit in an acrylic key ring. She used size 20 Milford for one side and then used size 30 Olympus on the other side. The initial J is Teri Dusenbury's which she is currently sharing on her blog. In preparation fro doing a few more of these Aileen has tatted up an assortment of Mini Tats ready for Christmas giving.

Heather received her exchange gifts. From Sherry Matthews a maple leaf pattern in size 50 thread. From Linda Mageske a Halloween postcard with a ghost and bat which are Mark Myers' patterns done in size 20 thread and the pumpkin by Sherry Matthews tatted in size 80. From Betty Jo, a new tatter, she received her own leaf pattern tatted into a bookmark in size 10 thread.
